In response to the sustainability trend in the international market, China State Construction International Holdings Limited (“CSCI” or the “Group”) aims to achieve sustainability and maintain its industry-leading position by enhancing its environmental, social, and governance (ESG) performance, and leading the industry and the entire value chain towards a sustainable future.
Advancing Progress Towards Carbon Neutrality by Excellent Green ManagementCSCI is committed to advancing the Group's green and low-carbon transformation in response to the challenges brought by climate change. To achieve a successful transition to a low-carbon economy, CSCI is establishing a carbon strategy with carbon emissions management, low-carbon technology, and carbon finance at its core.
The Group has developed independently the Carbon Neutral Cloud Platform, integrating blockchain and IoT technology to monitor and analyse carbon emissions in real-time, thereby enhancing carbon data and asset management In addition, the Group is committed to developing and applying new building technologies. To reduce construction waste, construction carbon emissions, and material waste, the Group vigorously expanding the market for Modular Integrated Construction (MiC). At the same time, the Group is developing and applying Building-integrated Photovoltaics (BIPV). This technology integrates solar power generation products into buildings, ensuring efficient energy storage in buildings through light storage, direct current, or grid connection, to achieve the goal of low-carbon emissions during the operational phase of building projects.
CSCI actively seizes the opportunity in the nascent carbon finance markets in Mainland China and Hong Kong. The Group has been developing the carbon asset development and management plan, which provides financial support for the promotion of low-carbon technology. The Group has taken the lead with the O·PARK2 project, made the first carbon asset transaction with the purpose of carbon emission offset on Core Climate, an international carbon trading platform of Hong Kong Stock Exchange for physical economy enterprises to participate in the Hong Kong carbon market.
Achieving Sustainable Goals by Excellent Environmental ManagementCSCI actively responding to the trend of low-carbon transformation and promoting carbon neutrality through practicing green construction. The Group incorporates environmental protection concepts into project design to reduce the overall carbon emissions of buildings. The Group carefully designs from multiple aspects such as building materials, greening, lighting and water use, aiming to integrate buildings into the surrounding environment. The Chinese University of Hong Kong Medical Centre, which was constructed by the Group, placed a sky garden in the middle of the building during the design stage. The greening area of the project is as high as 20%. The large-scale vertical greening and sky garden can alleviate the urban heat island effect. The Chinese University of Hong Kong Medical Centre was awarded the final Platinum rating of the BEAM Plus New Buildings Version 1.2 for its green building and environmental assessment.
The Group actively researches and applies technology in different areas, adhering to the development philosophy of “innovation, coordination, green, openness, and sharing”, and using technological progress as the foundation for the expansion and construction quality of the Group’s business. Thereby, the Group invested 117.26 million RMB in clean technology research and development in 2022.
To improve governance efficiency, the Group actively promotes digital ecology and has launched C-SYS+ and C-Smart to fully digitise daily operations. To lay a foundation for company governance and strategic guidance, C-SYS+ introduces advanced technologies such as data collection, analysis, AI comparison, prediction, and robot development, and connects various departments and business areas systems and platforms. As the same time, the C-SYS+ system actively builds an ESG sustainability system to assist decision-makers in comprehending the Group’s carbon emissions and carbon reduction measures. C-Smart integrates technologies such as facial recognition, IoT, artificial intelligence, and cloud computing in order to collect construction site information automatically. It can achieve all round intelligent monitoring and comprehensive managementof construction engineering.
To seize market opportunities, the Group continues to research and develop MiC and BIPV technology. In 2022, the Group released the “Hailong Model” MiC series building products. Unlike domestic modular buildings that are mostly low-rise buildings no higher than 7 floors, these products can be used for high-rise permanent buildings up to hundreds of metres high and have sufficient wind and earthquake resistance, representing the advanced level of modular construction technology in the world. As the first modular high-rise buildings with concrete MiC technology, the Guangdong Shenzhen Longhua Talent Housing Project applied the product successfully., which fully demonstrates the Group's scientific research capabilities. In addition, the Group has successfully developed MiC sewage treatment equipment, helping the Group to develop environmental protection business.
Besides, the Group has developed BIPV unit curtain wall, “Light S”. The product is being stable and has properties such as fire resistance and wind resistance. Furthermore, the “Light S” photovoltaic facade is capable of generating an average of 7,000 kilowatt-hours of electricity per year, which can power three households for an entire year. As a result of the installation of one wall, 7 tons of carbon dioxide emissions can be reduced, equal to the planting of 21 trees. This can help promote a green and low-carbon transformation in the construction industry.
Serve, Give back, and Go Green for a Better TomorrowCSCI upholds the concept of taking from society and giving back to society, and make contributions to the community and neighbourhood. The Group has established the “CCSI Caring for the Community Volunteer Branch”, which systematically organises community construction. The volunteer subgroup gives play to their main business advantages, understanding social needs related to housing repairs, urban development, and environmental protection, and focusing on serving the elderly, youth and those in need.
Looking to the future, CSCI will continue to leverage its leadership position, promote green building technology and concepts, and apply them to the Group's construction projects, thereby promoting sustainable construction and urbanisation. To lead the construction industry and all parties along the value chain into the era of sustainability, the Group will foster industry-academic cooperation, strive to become a think tank for green and low-carbon development of the construction industry. CSCI will cultivate more sustainability professionals and contribute to the "dual carbon" goal.
